One of the newest super fast cars from Lamborghini is the LP640 roadster. This one time tractor manufacturer is on the push to develop new hot car models to increase its presence in the world wide super car market.

The LP640 leads the way with an attractive roadster design that was first shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2006. This super fast cars legacy comes from the Murcielago plat form.

This hot car models engine is mounted backwards, with the transmission at the very back of the car. There were also a few minor external changes to the Murcielago plat form.

The front and also rear bumpers have been restyled to channel air more efficiently, and the new exhaust has been better incorporated into the rear diffuser to maximize down force.

This provides better high-speed handling and an overall feel of a car that is well planted to the road surface.

The super fast car is a work of art

The engine that provides the motivation for this super fast car is Lamborghini’s 6.5 L V12 engine that produces 640-horse power at 8000 rpm and 487 pound feet of torque at 6000 rpm’s.

It is reported that ninety percent of this V12 engine has been improved. Including the cylinder heads, intake system, crankshaft, camshafts and exhaust just to name a few hard parts.

The Engine management system goes even further with improvements to extract the most from the engine upgrades. For example they added a continuously variable timing system on both the intake and exhaust valves coupled with a drive-by-wire system that softens the initial throttle lag creating smoother operation through out the RPM range.

What about the super fast cars transmission

Like many hot car models the shifter is a paddle type shifter mounted on an odd looking steering wheel.

The all wheel drive transmission has been modified including the gearbox, drive shafts or propeller shafts, and rear differential, this is said to improve the total torque output of the super car.

There is also a lot of talk about the improved E-Gear software that helps control the drive train. But I have read conflicting reports about the software’s specs and performance ratings.

The drive train also features traction control to reduce wheel spin and improve both quarter mile times along with 0-60 performance. The super fast cars suspension now has Bilstein suspension parts with a new setup to improve the LP640's handling and performance.

Lets talk about the hot cars model performance

The vehicle is most definitely in the 200mph club but I have read reports on the vehicles top speed to be from a high of 212 mph down to a maximum of 205 mph. So I am not sure whom to believe but any way it’s very fast.

The 0-60 time was reported at 3.3 seconds and most of the super car magazines agreed with this spec. I could not find any specs on the quarter mile time but vehicle’s with similar set up’s are in the 11-12 second range.

The braking system has 2 options but lets talk about the performance braking option. The system has been described as like running into a wall during hard braking.

The dual hydraulic circuit brake system equipped with a vacuum brake booster and independent 4 wheel ABS controls the ceramic carbon fiber braking system featuring six-piston brake calipers. This brings the super fast car to a screeching halt and provides tremendous braking with little fade for road course enthusiasts.
