Increase Fuel Economy

Increasing fuel economy image

Increase fuel economy and miles per gallon are the hottest automotive topics on the Internet right now. Even with gas prices pulling back.

We will not forget what is possible on the roller coaster ride that is petroleum pricing! Heading over four dollars a gallon in the United States in 2008 and reaching seven dollars a gallon in 2009 for Europe, the need to discuss this topic in depth is required.

Master Tech Mark here and this will be an introduction page and an overview of how to increase your fuel economy. Or at least get the maximum miles per gallon that your vehicle will allow.

At the bottom of this page will be more in-depth articles related to this subject. I am sure that you have heard some of these topics covered before, but please take the time to read the articles because they may include a fuel economy tip that you have not heard of.

With each tip, producing an increase of 10 to 20% in fuel savings, if you learned just one new technique. This could have large effects on your yearly gas consumption.

More miles per gallon

Image of large gas pump The whole idea is to get the biggest bang for the buck, so if there are some ways you can get more miles to the gallon, why not pursue them? So the question is how to increase fuel economy on your own vehicle.

While there are a number of things and some of these are common sense measures that will definitely increase your miles per gallon, while other measures may entail some physical adjustments, maintenance, or mods to better your mileage.

And lastly there are devices and products that claim to increase your mileage. This certainly seems too good to be true. Whether they are legitimate solutions or just snake oil in a box is the question that will be answered in the articles below.

One improvement I have installed was a cold air intake. Now this does improve miles per Gallon. But it also increases performance and this is a fact. The hard part for me is to keep my foot off the floor.

After installing the performance air intake my miles per gallon went down because I wanted to hear the growl and feel the new power! This was not why I installed it. Forcing my self to put around for a tank full I did see an improvement of about 2 mpg.

On this page and the articles below, we will take a closer look at maximizing the fuel economy of your vehicle. Keep in mind that if you use all of the techniques from the following pages. Together, you will achieve the most dramatic results for increasing your average fuel economy.

Driving habits increase fuel economy

The most common mistake by new and experienced drivers alike is the acceleration procedure. When the light turns green nailing the accelerator on your car or truck, and getting that adrenaline rush as you're pushed back into the driver's seat is a lot of fun, but it's also an expensive kick.

When you look at what it does to your average gas mileage. Jackrabbit starts cause the engine to literally suck the petroleum in large amounts, Rather than in taking fuel in a smooth, civilized manner.

While we're all guilty of engaging in the stop light drags, next time you feel the temptation, ask yourself if it's really that important to show the guy in the Mustang, who the real king of the road is. Remember, it's your wallet, so why is it so important to impress a total stranger.

Keeping your highway speed and 55 mph can increase fuel economy as much as 25%, compared to 75 mph. Keep in mind that over 50% of the energy required to move a vehicle down the road is spent overcoming aerodynamic drag.

The faster you drive, the more air, you will have to push out of the way. And this dramatically increases rolling resistance. Consequently, the fuel economy decreases rapidly at speeds above 60 mph.

As a rule of thumb you can assume that each 5 mph you drive over 60 mph is like paying an additional $.21 per gallon for gas. If you do the math this adds up in a hurry.

This tip and the other tips to follow on the next pages can equal total gas savings of thousands of dollars in a one-year driving period.
