Eclipse bent valves by: Anonymous Is it mandatory to put in new guides and seats when you bend the valves? The short answer is no it’s not mandatory. But the guides should be checked carefully. The configuration of the cylinder head and the angle of the valves really determine the likely hood of damage to those components.Remember the valves were bent due to harsh contact with the top of the pistons. Often but not always damage can occur to the pistons in this type of situation. The pistons should at least be inspected carefully.Its good news and good business that your auto repair shop is excepting responsibility. On there end they would most likely prefer to hold down the cost of the repairs. Hopefully they will replace everything that’s needed. But I can understand limiting the repairs to actually what’s needed.
