In some cases these can be removed or wind up missing. Check that everything that is supposed to be in the box is there. Also make sure that you have all the supplies needed to complete the repair. Things like rags, silicone, coolant, razor blades and other tools that may be required. I personally don't start pulling stuff apart until I feel confident I will not have to stop.
